Thermal Imaging Case Study - Critical Pump onboard a Ship

The importance of thermally scanning the motor connection cable when carrying out a thermographic survey is evident on this example. A vertically mounted critical motor and pump onboard a ship. A distinct thermal pattern can be seen on the supply cable. The temperature was measured at 46°C.

The motor was shut down, isolated and connection box opened. The cable connections were scanned whilst the motor had been shutdown for several minutes. This time the temperature measured was at least 239ºC!
